My good grad school friend Brittney introduced me to a (relatively new?) website called Habit RPG. The purpose of this site is to, not surprisingly, incite you the user to be more, well, habit-y. You are able to assign yourself (a cute little pixelated avatar that you can dress up, modify, and mount on top of a golden dragon) different kinds of tasks:
There's lots of fantastic little details and opportunities for personalization throughout the site that I won't go into here - they have wonderful video tutorials and another avatar friend to walk you all of that. It was incredible easy to set up and get started with it, and my time away from the computer has been mostly spent trying to think of more tasks I can add!
I have just started using the site but can already tell that it's going to motivate me to do grand and great things. That guitar that's been collecting dust in my spare bedroom? Just pulled it out and strummed a few chords on it. That paper I have not for the life of me been able to start? With my new (except not new, should have been doing it for a long time now) daily task of writing without pause for 15 minutes, I got two pages knocked out on it. Two pages! Granted, they are perhaps two pages of drivel that may never see the light of another computer screen but mine, but they are there! My thoughts, my words, my ideas that have until now just been bouncing around my head - on paper! On screen! Um...this blog post? One of my dailies is to do something for the blog. Just a thing. Any thing. Any one, small, inconsequential, profound, moronic, doesn't-matter, thing. So, as you're thanking me for this incredible find, Habit RPG is the one who gets to say "You're welcome."
Habit on, friends!
- Habits: the things you should or should not do during the day, multiple times a day
- Dailies: the once-a-day tasks that sometimes do/don't get done
- To-dos: the upcoming tasks that don't have to get done every day but you do need to keep on your list
- Rewards: the things you get to treat yo' self with when you've done enough of all the other things
